Apr. 7th, 2007 11:23 pmTitle: Missing Mommy 3/?
Author: Ashling Darcy
Email: predictable3105@...
Fandom(s): CSI: Miami
Genre (general, hetero or slash): Gen for now, will be slash
Pairing/Characters: Horatio/Speed eventually, strong team friendship
Rating: will probably hit R
Summary: What if Susie had started using again? What if it all went bad
before Horatio could help? What if Horatio ended up with custody of a five
year old Madison? Warnings: Ummmm, slash? Is that still a warning at this
point? There is some swearing and they may even be smut…I make no promises.
*evil grin*
Notes: You know it means a lot to have an author you look up to…pester…and I
mean that in the most respectful sense, you for more…well, it just feels
good you know? Ego boost. LOL. I'm enjoying writing this and I'm glad
someone out there wants to read it, let alone so many of you. So thanks.
Anyway, I'm doing this a little different from the previous two
chapters…we're gonna see what Speed has to say. Any problems with that? I
hope I do his voice justice. And I'm sure y'all tell me if'n I don't.
*grins* I also noticed watching the second episode we see Madison in, that
she's already of school age…well for this she's not. Oops. Call it what you
want but I'm writing this and I'm keeping it the way I started.
Acknowledgments: thanks to Dru for the beta as always. Whatever would I do
without you, my darling friend? *smooches*
Speed watched as Horatio answer his phone through the glass walls of the
lab. He sighed in frustration when he realized he was staring at his boss
again. He knew he needed to stop this. He was bound to get caught one day.
Well by someone who wouldn't be as understanding as Calleigh had been. Or
Alexx. Of course Eric had said things, but he'd been teasing. Speed rolled
his eyes at himself and thought, 'Well gee who else do I need to get caught
by? I've got just about everybody's opinion so far.' He turned back to his
work as the printer finally popped out his results. His eyes widened when he
saw what the results actually were.
"Hey, Speed, man. What've you got?" Eric frowned and watched as Speed didn't
so much as acknowledge him as he made his way out of the lab and down the
hallway. "Well guess he got something good." Eric laughed to himself and
left to go find Calleigh and check on the course of the bet, 'When were H
and Speed gonna get together?'
"H!" Speed called out a few feet behind him.
Horatio turned and frowned and replied, "Speed. Can it wait? I
have…something to take care of."
"Sorry, H. I know how frustrated you were when the murder weapon didn't turn
up anything. So I thought you'd want to see this." Speed passed his results
over to H and waited.
Horatio's eyebrow went up. "Well…isn't this…interesting." He thought a
moment. "Speed, could you take care of this? I need to meet someone in the
lobby, but I'll be with you as soon as possible."
"Of course H. Not a problem." Speed smiled at Horatio and hesitated as if to
say something else, but turned and walked off without saying anything more.
Just then Yelina walked up and tapped Horatio on the shoulder. "There's a
delightful little redhead at the front desk asking for you Horatio. I
believe you told me your daughter's name was…Madison?" She asked. The
curiosity and suspicion in her tone weren't masked very well and Horatio
gave a mental sigh at the thought of dealing with her at the moment.
"Well then I'd better not keep her waiting, hmmm?" He nodded his head at her
and finished making his way there. He crouched down and smiled. "Hello,
baby-girl. What are you doing here?" He questioned his niece gently.
"I wanted you. Not *her*." At the 'her' Madison glanced furtively at her
babysitter. "I miss you. Why can't I be with you instead? You told me you
wouldn't leave me." Horatio fought back a smile at the fierce tone and the
little frown on her face.
"I thought you liked Ms. Mandy." Horatio looked up at the twenty year old
who'd agreed to watch his niece while he worked during the day. "I know she
likes you."
"But she's not you." Madison said as if this explained everything.
Horatio swallowed and fought back tears, wishing dearly in that moment that
Madison was his. And not a mistake his idiot brother had made. "Well nobody
but me is me, now are they? And I explained to you about my job, baby-girl.
What would you have me do? Do you want me to quit?" He asked tone completely
serious.
Madison looked at him in shock. "No! Never ever. Then who would catch the
bad guys? Nobody else god enough." The five year old said things too wise
for her years sometimes.
"Well then, until we find something more permanent, you'll just have to put
up with Ms. Mandy." He smiled again and resisted the urge to hold Madisonclose.
"H?"
Horatio turned and glanced up at Speed. "Yes? What can I help you with?"
Fighting the blush he could feel coming at the man he loved catching him
kneeling on the floor.
Speed smiled, "We got him, H. Told him the evidence we had and he crumpled."
His smile turned thoughtful, "Pretty pathetic actually. We're done for the
day if you wanted to go and have a family dinner." Speed looked at Madison,
studying her features for a moment. He crouched down next to Horatio almost
too close and said, "You must be Madison. Horatio talks about you all the
time." He ignored the incredulous look Horatio shot him and grinned in
response to the little girl's proud smile. "He tells me you're a very smart
girl. It's good that he has someone like you to look after him now. Are you
making sure he doesn't work too hard?"
Madison giggled and sidled closer to her uncle but answered Speed anyway,
"Someone has to." She shrieked with laughter as Horatio tickled her.
"Is that so? The both of you are too smart for your own good. Would you like
to join us for dinner, Speed? Assuming, of course, you don't already have
plans?"
Speed later could've sworn his heart stopped when those clear blue, laughing
eyes turned on him. A dinner invitation? From H? Like he'd say no. Ever.
"I'd love to. Thanks." He smiled brilliantly at H and Madison, "Just…let me
go get my stuff?"
"We'll be here." H smirked slightly. Madison just grinned from her hiding
place in Horatio's arms.
'What I wouldn't give to make you both mine.' Speed thought in that one
perfect moment with two redheaded blue-eyed beauties grinning at him. He
hurried through his usual after shift routine and quickly made his way back
to them. Hoping they'd still be there. Knowing they would be.
